We first discovered The Finch in the spring of 2015 when Manny and his wife Emily were looking for a new place to try for her birthday. What a find!
Its hard to say enough good things about the food being served up by Gabe McMackin and his team. Gabe is the Finch’s hyper talented, passionate and incredibly friendly chef / owner. He’s got some impressive street cred too, having cooked at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Gramercy Tavern and the Brooklynite favorite, Roberta’s. His range of experience clearly shows in his cooking and the respect he and his crew have for the locally sourced seasonal ingredients that shine through in every dish. In particular, vegetables in any form at The Finch are transcendent.
The Finch is located at 212 Greene Street, on a quiet residential block in the lovely neighborhood of Clinton Hill, in the storefront of a recently renovated 120 year old residential building. We don’t know a person who wouldn’t love spending time in this beautifully designed restaurant. We’d describe the front room as modern rustic, featuring a wonderful bar with seating for 9 and a fully open kitchen. The back room is a bit more intimate and warm and beyond tabletops, has additional seating at a kitchen bar with a great view of the kitchen crew at work.
On any given night, the crowd is a mix of young and old, families and hipsters, couples on date nights, parents of Pratt students in town taking their kids out to dinner, and all of them enjoying a great experience together. The impeccable and friendly service keeps it all humming, it would be hard to find a more welcoming and knowledgeable staff anywhere. Plus they take reservations on OpenTable for as few as 2 and you can do it right from thefinchnyc.com! We love that!
And did we mention the amazing food? We did…. but there’s one thing we didn’t say: The last time we stopped by to grab a few pics, Gabe and his team had just been awarded a well deserved Michelin star! So get yourselves over there soon and be sure to tell them that Recipesfromthestudio.com sent you!
Btw, Gabe has offered to share some recipes with us here, keep you’re eyes peeled for them!
